I started my day very early today, for reasons unknown. I guess I just couldn't sleep. And as I do every morning, I spend the first bit of it reading up on the world, whether it be humorous, depressing, or serious, I like being in the know.

I found myself bombarded by bummout after bummout today. I was reading up on the junk food tax, the new healthcare laws, and doing my routine search of really unjust things our government pulls off without a hitch on a daily basis. On top of all that, I unfortunately wasted 4 minutes of my life becoming acquainted with Donna Simpson, the New Jersey woman determined to shatter the record for being the worlds fattest female. She's pushing 700 lbs and is gunning for the half ton mark. I'm all about being you being you, and if you are happy doing what you are doing, no matter what it is, I'm all for it. But for some reason I can't let this lady go right now. It sucks so bad I can't help but to hold some sort of contempt for her.

Some days I wish I didn't even keep up with current events. Some days it leaves me feeling so hopeless, that the world is fucked beyond repair, and there is nothing left worth fighting for. Shortly after my internet bummout sesh was over, I serviced my ever-growing social networking addiction and logged onto my facebook, for the 2nd time. I stumbled across this video courtesy of a good dude from Mexico named Francisco. It really brightened my mood, and reminded me, that there are a lot of people in this world that don't suck.

By the looks of it, the PS22 chorus may be nothing new to most of you, they have appeared on Good Morning America, and some of their youtube videos have a million plus views. This is news to me, and I felt I had to share this with all of you. I love how much they are all feeling it. Especially the kid on the right at 1:10, he kills me. I'm so stoked that while kids this age live in a world where they are bombarded by bullshit from every angle day in and day out, good things can still prevail. I get really bummed out when I hear a 10 year old walking around humming "Rude boy", a song about a girl wondering if a guys dick is big enough to satisfy her or not. Get at me with your thoughts, @IPSJared.

If you are in my neck of the woods, that means for you it is sunday, and it's beautiful outside. Go spend time with your loved ones. Go spend time outside. Smile, and be well.

hardly.

that video was really cute, jared. it really is all to easy to just totally lose hope in everything around us the more we actually stare at it. my boyfriend is studying to be a teacher and my mom is studying to become a professor...but the more i see of education, the more i just am horrified at how broken the entire educational system is...it all is just really disheartening. i guess all we can really do is look for these little sparks of hope and cling to them...

I'm lost.

Jared is saying new healthcare laws and junk food tax is bad and then says how it’s ridiculous that a fat woman is encouraged and proud to become even fatter?

In terms of government and society, it isn't always full of shit, the western world wouldn't be what it is without a successful government to run the nations. Believe it or not the world isn't falling to shit. Most of the time there moves are just, but people get scared of change and being told what they can and can't have.

I'm quite happy with the way government works and how its progressing, of course it's not perfect, the capitalist system isn't perfect, there are some things (mainly hard right wing views) that make me go WTF, but it's the most efficient and it is the best fit for humanity around.

I'm getting the point of the post, just that paragraph didn't make much sense. Plus I thought the healthcare change in the states was a really good move.

That is very disturbed that the jersey lady wants to be the fattest women in the world. By god, have some decentcy for yourself. Nobody is going to like you any better if you're fat. They'll you at you and get disgusted by you. I hate to say it, but it's the truth.

I think everyone has those days. I for one do, and I am a pretty optimisic person. But I do believe the world is fucked beyond repair but there is always some small object worth fighting for.

Um wow, those kids are so talented and yeah he was so hilarious. It did brigthen my day. As for the 10 years humming "Rude boy," I used to 'sing' rap not knowing what the songs meant when I was little. For example, I sang the 'thong' song when it came out and I didn't even know what a thong was at the age of six or however old I was. He might just be navie and have no idea what the lyrics mean. It's just he sees older 'cool' kids singing it and wants to be just like them.

YES! It was gorgeous out today. Went out for a walk in my neighborhood smelling all the blossoming flowers. I wish it could stay this weather for the rest of the year.

I don't think the woman who's trying to break the world record will not make it to 1000 pounds. I hate to sound negative about this, but I have a feeling she will either end up in the hospital or worse before then, especially if she's eating mostly fast food to help her gain weight.

As for the health reform, I've said this before, and I'll say it again. There are two things I do not like about the new laws. One is being fined for not having health insurance. The other thing is if my employer pays for my health insurance, I have to report that as income. However, as an uninsured American, I am happy that I will finally have the chance to obtain health insurance.

And the junk food tax? I don't support it. I don't think that will stop people from going to the store and buying a bottle of soda. Don't punish companies like Coca-Cola (which I am ADDICTED to) for something that many Americans choose to do.

i havent looked into it at ALL so cant really say anything but going off what you've said...
isn't it the same as it is with car insurance? we get fined if we don't have that and get in an accident. so i guess its a parallel. we have to have health insurance as well or pay a fine...

reporting health insurance as income does sound rather ridiculous though, as it is just going to end up as being something more 'taxable'...>.> but i dont want to get into any more debate or anything of the sort on the subject. just wanted to mention my thoughts on that one point.

"The other thing is if my employer pays for my health insurance, I have to report that as income."

I totally misinterpreted this. I actually got that from a friend, and those were his exact words. However, if my coverage costs more than $10,500, then a tax will be placed on either me or my employer (I forget). But that doesn't take effect until 2018, and if I have a family by then, it will be taxed if coverage costs more than $27,000 (or something like that). It's still a little ridiculous if you think about it.

I better check on my sources before I say anything. :x

I'm lost.

some parts of the new healthcare laws I think could help a considerable amount of people. But at the end of the day, no matter what reform happens. The entire system is based off of greed, and no matter how its spun, there's always going to be an unjustified amount of money pouring in the wrong direction. although the new laws may help, its going to take a lot more than that for me to put any faith back into any part of the healthcare system. dig a little, watch a few docs, and get bummed with me.

but YES, i think the junk food tax is completely ridiculous. its just another way to recoup money. NO ONE is going to be deterred from eating junk food simply because is a few cents more expensive. I personally like eating shitty food from time to time. I exercise and eat well, and sometimes I enjoy rewarding myself by destroying a big mac or two. I'm sure it goes the same for a lot of people. If someone doesn't have enough will power to stay away from Mcdonald's for more than a few hours at a time, a few cents on the dollar isn't doing anything except fattening someones pocket.

now if that 5 or 10 cents (or whatever it may be) per dollar magically went to a fund to help feed the hungry, it would be a different story. but I'd be willing to bet that's not the case. I don't know where the money is going to go, but I'd assume its goes to help "nutritional awareness". or some agency somewhere that will get hundreds of thousands of dollars to make a series of commercials explaining the dangers of eating foods high in saturated fats. most likely that agency paid someone off to get the contract.

obviously i don't know if that's the case or not. as I question things, time and time again, this formula seems to pop up more often than not.

Does anybody know anyone that quit smoking once heavy taxes were put on cigarettes? I don't. saying that taxes like these are for our own good is just another way to shut us up.

if the tax money went towards subsidizing the cost of foods high in nutritional value, like like fruits and vegetables, then it would balance itself out. You could then sell me on the fact that it may deter people from eating poorly. in that case it may actually make it cheaper to go grocery shopping than go to Wendy's, which is definitely not the case now. if it were you'd be hearing a totally different argument from me.

all that is going to happen is super cheap shitty fast food, is just going to be a littttle bit less cheaper. I guess i shouldn't be barking about it until i see how it all goes down, and where all the money falls. I'm assuming a lot here. But judging by this countries track record, I have a pretty good idea where the money will fall, and it isn't with us.

I agree 100%...

Just to add something where taxes actually made good (at least I think so)...
In Germany we have taxes on gas, it's like 20-30 cent per liter (while the liter costs around 1,40€). The money is spent on developing renewable energy sources like windparks or solar energy...

The sarcastic part about this is that while this stuff worked pretty well for years now (Germany is one of the top countries who use solar energy), they now are gonna cut it (they say for one year only but whatever)... :/
